Submitted by dsgill on Wed, 2006-03-08 13:03.

Chandigarh, March 7

The High Court on Tuesday ordered the Chandigarh Police to immediately provide a personal security officer to human rights activist and advocate Navkiran Singh, who is counsel for the Lawyer for Human Rights International (LHRI) in the ongoing PIL relating to alleged land-grabbing and benami land transactions in the villages in Chandigarh's periphery.

Resuming the hearing on the application filed by Mr Navkiran Singh, in which he had referred to the alleged attack on him in the High Court complex some days back, which, he claimed, was at the behest of senior Punjab Police named in the PIL, the Bench of Chief Justice Mr Justice D.K. Jain and Mr Justice Surya Kant also gave two days' time to the UT Police to review the threat to Mr Navkiran Singh's life and submit it report by the next date.

It later adjourned the hearing to March 9.
